Not to mention dramatically increasing mental health, drug use and addiction issues.

In order to boldly march forward with Canada we need to understand the footings that we are building upon - sand or rock - and where best to cast our sights.

The people. They are the source of hope yet there is an element of activation calling them to accept the realities and start moving towards solutions. Canadians are solutions savvy individuals and it’s time we put the permission back into our hearts to bring our solutions to the table. Without fear. We don’t have to rely on the elected few or the corporate 1% to bring about positive change. Canadians can start to make a difference today, in their own homes, by discussing the hard truths and acting on the possibilities, together.

Sadly, a hard truth is that financially, Canada is still running a federal deficit, and while the government projects a gradual narrowing of that deficit, public finances remain under pressure. Depending on how debt is measured, Canadians carry a substantial per-person public debt burden, but the exact figure varies by whether one is referring to federal debt alone or all levels of government.

While the economy appears to be stabilising, our households are feeling the squeeze. The once buffered middle class is dwindling and are feeling the effects the most with forced change of habits, lifestyle and increased stressors on their relationships. Unfortunately, in the modern world, finances dramatically impact mental health, and we are witnessing these impacts. Wages haven’t increased, inflation has spiked dramatically, and so on. If you’re reading this, you know it first hand.

Unemployment, growing poverty, increasing food insecurity, and health care access is a challenge and slow to receive. Not to mention the sense of safety in this country is plummeting. Yes, I still remember the days you could leave your front door unlocked, keys in the car with the windows rolled down and no one did anything. Desperation hits different in this timeline I guess and frankly those are the most basic of safety concerns in this country. In some cities, it would be unwise to encourage females to walk alone at night, parents are on hyper alert in regards to their child’s whereabouts thanks to increased child trafficking and homicides hit a record high of 874 in Canada in 2025.

Now that we know the hard hitting facts of where Canada is today, let’s move forward.

What can a future for Canada look like?

There is still hope.

I know this to be true because I haven’t quit on the country I so dearly love. Most importantly, I haven’t given up on the people. It’s the people that make this country so incredible and worth standing for. From every coast and border of this country, I am certain we can all list a handful of Canadians that directly represent “Canada” and what we desire to perceive the country to be. Perhaps we need to celebrate that more, showcase the “good ones” and make sure our generations continue to embody what was once internationally understood as “Canadian” - polite, kind, hardworking, open-minded, able to digest opposing viewpoints, willing to help the other guy, and ready to fight for justice when required.

So what changed?

Possibly the sense of desperation that’s hitting the front doors of many homes. We’ve watched starving animals operate, we know that when desperation kicks in desirable qualities disappear. Maybe that’s what we are witnessing.

Perhaps it’s the increasingly disconnected world that we are entrenched in, only recognising faces on our screens and not those of our next door neighbours. Perhaps it’s the “pandemic effect” that shut us down, taught us to believe that many don’t care about others and we should fear and hate everyone. Keep our distance at all times.

Maybe I’m getting a bit too dramatic, but something changed; I’ll let you draw your own conclusions here.

How do we move forward to a respected, united and citizen-first country?

That’s it isn’t it? Governance needs to put its citizens first. When Canadians, all Canadians, can be secure in their basic needs - food, shelter, care - and hold a strong sense of safety in the country they call home, that’s the beginning of the solution. National pride comes from the citizens, not government slogans, and the pride is earned from a strong sense of security, connection, and faith in the future of the country.

Nation building means building a nation for the future, not for the right now.

This requires governments to make decisions that do not benefit their political term, possibly not even their lifetime, but to structure decisions and actions that are made for generations to come. This demands that leaders are not in the green seats of the House of Commons for their retirement fund, family trust fund, or future employment - they are seated there to help shape the future and health of their country.

What needs to change?

Politically, it is high time that electoral reform happened. Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ran on the platform of electoral reform, knowing full well that it would destroy his chances for a second term, and then left office stating that was his greatest regret, “not getting electoral reform.” Citizens understand the tactic but the lives of over 41 million should not be used as another pawn for a big personal payout.

Canadians, especially western Canadians, know that the First Past the Post system needs to be removed completely. One vote should equal one vote and those individual votes determine the leader, no matter how onerous the process. Similarly, the Senate should be voted in and every single person in government should have a term limit. Career politicians are no longer benefitting the country and a guaranteed lifestyle on taxpayers dollars is not acceptable.

Civic duty truly needs to return to just that, duty for the civilians of the nation, not duty to oneself or an impressive passport stamp collection. Plus, citizens need to be continuously encouraged to engage in politics by way of referendums not just the four year election cycle. Government wants a raise? Citizen referendum. Government wants to increase taxes? Education period and citizen referendum. And so on.

What else would you change to dream up a successful future for Canada?

I encourage you to discuss these thoughts, suggestions for change and add in what you believe will lead to a bright future for Canada - strong in real democracy, focused on the future of the nation and built on the deeply felt pride of its citizens. Perhaps there is hope left in all of us to drive towards change that is lasting, built on a firm foundation of rocks with tempered guidance from the beliefs that all Canadians have a right to basic needs, security, sovereignty, and a prosperous future.

Thanks for reading Fear|Less Conversations! How to articulate all the words, thoughts, feelings, concerns and more so that the message is heard and the emotions of the reader are not ignited thereby risking being ignored.

How does one discuss an incredibly divisive topic from many angles - for, against, in the middle, outside looking in?

The topic? Alberta separation.

I prefer to stick with the constitutional term - secession.

The reason why I prefer this term is because it is in alignment with the Clarity Act wording (the Clarity Act is Canada’s federal framework for any future secession vote), it holds a different emotional position and frankly, doesn’t sound so “brash”. I am also tired of how humans adore taking language and turning everyday words, once very important, into artillery. The word “independence” once meant something of great importance, now in Alberta, unless you are in support, it is akin to a swear word. Separation, same thing. How dare there be a separation of two parts. One part from a whole, etc. And yet, that happens every day of our lives and we don’t even bat an eye.

Moving on…

Alberta secession and the push of many Albertans to have Ottawa make changes in how they govern Canada. To the best of my understanding that’s the basis of the motivation, when you remove the financially focused, money hungry leaders of the movement and identify who the people behind the Alberta Prosperity Project are you recognize that as a whole, they are fed up with how the Western provinces are being treated by those on the Hill.

The cost of living is atrocious, Canadians are leaving Canada at an alarming pace, taxation is out of control, national pride appears non-existent - even from our federal leadership - and while Canadians have a plucky way of carrying on despite what’s stacked up against them, it seems to be only a matter of time before they all crumble.

What was once a respectable income barely pays the bills. Homes are nearly impossible to afford and the sometimes forced “sell to downsize” pathway is a challenge. What once would be the downsized home is now pushing near $800K in rural communities. Simple, healthy groceries are unaffordable, meat prices are out of this world and for a country that has one of the largest agricultural sectors in the world, this doesn’t make sense. Monopolistic behaviour remains a serious concern despite the Competition Act, which is intended to promote competition. This highlights that enforcement gaps and legal loopholes can still allow anti-competitive conduct to persist and our cell phone bills alone showcase this flaw.

If you look closely enough at your bills from pre-2019 to today, you will see that your income does not match your cost of living, but what choice do you have to make any changes? Inflation is out of control. Your income taxes have gone up, the excise taxes have gone up, cost of living has gone up. But has your income increased at the same rate? No. And frankly, I am not convinced they ever will.

While I am no economist, I am a pattern seeker and I find them rather quickly, and in reality I believe that is valuable beyond credentials and accessible to many. Seeing the patterns that match those of other historical records, or patterns that highlight significant incongruence between what is being said versus what is being done is how we as every day citizens can see what’s next. And what’s next is the necessity for change.

What do we know to be true?

We know that the cost of living is a challenge, our electoral and senate systems are antiquated and no longer represent citizens fairly, and that citizens do not believe in the power of their vote. We know that taxation levels are comparative to the feudal system of serfdom, basic social programs and infrastructure are not improving, and citizens are continuing to feel crunched while the corporations are seeing benefits. We know that Memorandums of Understanding and lists of demands are not making the changes necessary. That jobs are being outsourced internationally or killed faster than we have ever seen - even during depression and war times. Most importantly, we know that economic investment in Canada, and Alberta, have been declining for the past 10 to 15 years - we are just now experiencing the backlash.

We know that something has to change

Now, Why would a region choose to join Canada today (not the Canada we are all nostalgic for)?

Looking at Canada today, and removing my nostalgia for the country I grew up in and so proudly represented internationally as an athlete, I honestly don’t know. What would be the real selling feature?

The natural landscape, the beauty, the diverse land, the safe drinking water across 99% of the country, the heart of the people? But is that enough? Is that enough to entice a region to join, let alone stay?

In the past we held onto our pride for our inventions, our innovation, the Canadian heart and will, how we fought valiantly in both World Wars and how we were successful, unashamed to be matching our greatest trade partners south of the border in success and growth, but now? Now all that seems moot. We fight wars by sending taxpayer dollars and strip our veterans and military of funding, we hold grudges and trade wars with the USA, we seek scapegoats in other countries’ leaders, and we fail to take responsibility for our own failures. That’s not a selling feature nor advancement, that’s shameful and stagnation.

Don’t kid yourself, there has been a quiet voice in your head whispering “something has to change” and while you may successfully ignore it, there will come a moment you’ll listen. Dear citizen, I hope you listen sooner than later.

It might not be to stand for and support Alberta secession, but it can be for acting now and expressing the need for the electoral and senate systems to change. It can be for pushing against the crippling taxation system. It can be for demanding better and improved social and infrastructure systems. Yet, these all boil back to why the Western provinces are discussing secession from Canada.

The concerns of Albertans are the quiet concerns of the rest of Canada.

Albertans have always been disruptors, it’s in our DNA. Likely because our lineage is so diverse, some bloodlines from Texas and the USA, many from Europe, others direct from the indigenous ancestors and brothers and sisters that helped shape Alberta alongside the white men that first made their way West.

Albertans have pressed forward even when the East would say “No.” Like the folks in Lacombe that drilled their first oil well in 1947 without federal approval, or the folks that figured out how to extract the oil from the Oil Sands in Northern Alberta. Or the tenacious will of the farmer seeding and harvesting their crops year after year, despite a drought, flood, freeze, or whatever mother nature threw at them. Albertans are resilient like the rancher that holds on to traditional practices, using horses for gathering, checking and maintaining longstanding practices like branding, rodeo and family ties that build community.

Albertans are unafraid of risk because each season is exactly that, a risk. Sometimes a big reward, often a lesson, and in the end, another day to tell the story.

Secession is a long and arduous process, supporting democracy and the right for the citizens to express their will does not make one a bad person, it makes them an engaged citizen, expressing the necessity for democracy to remain. Choosing a yes or no vote does not make one a bad person, it makes them an engaged citizen, unafraid of the unknown and prepared for what’s possible.

You see, our country was built on the innate knowing of what’s possible and the courage to see what happens.

In the movies we cheer for the hero that thinks exactly like this - we are captured by their hope, fortitude and knowing that something has to change. And yet, in reality, the devil’s cloak of ease and comfort have taken all adventure away from us. Safety, perceived security, fear of shaking things up, have dimmed our lights and told us to not rock the boat. That change is bad.

But is it?

I’m not saying I have decided what my final vote will be, I am still exploring realities, risks, and what an independent Alberta could look like and yet, quite clearly, I know that something has to change and if it isn’t going to be how the Canadian government operates and elevates its citizens then a bigger change is required. It’s ok to discuss these changes, it’s okay to dream up new possibilities, it’s ok to dream of greater sovereignty.

Take courage, find hope, and dream with me.

Let’s imagine what can be next, instead of looking back and then crashing because we missed the corner that was up ahead.

Thanks for reading Fear|Less Conversations! my working career... Print Graphic Design.

Let’s talk Catalogues.

Specifically, designing, editing and printing catalogues to market your business. Advice from a designer to the catalogue owner.

Businesses do still print catalogues, and I honestly don’t see this part of the print industry going away. Actually, as society begins to check out of social media, online sales, and all the digital noise, I foresee print marketing making a comeback.

Recently, I was hired to assist with a catalogue edit. At least, it started as edits, but when the original file had to be converted from one program to the universally accepted Adobe InDesign program due to the former program sunsetting, this project turned into a beast. A complete redesign and it grew to being a project that became over budget because necessary parameters were not met at the forefront.

First, it’s not the client’s fault that these were not met - it was the nature of the project itself.

Let this be guidance for you and your business, should you plan to edit or build a catalogue to market your products in the future:

Start the process 6 months in advance. Even if you know there will be more or new products before print, that’s fine, but be sure to create space for them. It’s easier to remove something and fill with a “hero” graphic than to try to squeeze items in.

Have your company brand standards, package and files on hand and at the ready to share with your hired designer. Fonts included.

Be sure that all the files are collected and held in one spot. This means images (linked or desired to be changed), fonts, brand colors, logo files in vector (EPS or AI) format (print does not make a PNG or JPG logo look good).

When editing an existing catalogue, organise your thoughts and changes in a text document by page number, content, and supplied image link to be used. Think “table of contents for the contents” before the book is even made (page 1, new copy “...” , use image file “abcdefg.jpg”). This saves everyone time and frustration. PS - your actual table of contents is the absolute LAST part in the whole process.

File type. This matters a lot. And no, Canva will not work for print catalogues. There is a time and place for Canva, fine, but when we are doing grown-up things, we need to use grown-up programs. Adobe Creative Suite is universally used, and any designer worth your money will know how to use the programs within.

Binding. How will the catalogue be held together? The number of pages in the catalogue will determine this. Anything under 64 pages can be saddlestitched, anything over and you will need to consider book/perfect binding or coil/wire binding.

Time. Estimate double the amount of time you think the catalogue needs for changes to be made. If you are building a catalogue from scratch, be prepared for it to take longer as changes are made, design concepts shift, and spelling errors, etc., are caught in the first to third round of proofs.

Catalogues are giant beasts that deserve a lot of care and attention. They represent your business, showcase a snapshot of your company culture, pull together your brand, and are used to sell what you have to deliver to the world. If a catalogue misses the mark or is rushed in the process, the ROI in a printed catalogue won’t be there.

Plus, catalogues last for years, sometimes decades as collector items. They retain a value and an element of history when presented well. For many, they have become a source of pride — at least they do for the designer once it’s all said and done.

Considering building a catalogue for your company? Give me a shout, this is one skillset I will never give up and creating for print is a passion.

Subscribe now

Thoughts brought to you by:

EarthRunners : “Rewild Your Sole: Earthing Adventure Sandals” / For 10% off with Code: LISA (https://earthrunners.com/?rfsn=7538072.e092494)

LarineCo Gum: “Own Your Smile” with Remineralising Gum https://www.buylarine.com/LISA72889

WISE: Allowing users to send, spend, and receive money in multiple currencies, offering a platform for international payments and managing money across borders. https://tinyurl.com/wiseszabon

Isagenix : Targeted health, wellbeing and skincare for you. to assist in policy writing, and I thought, “since no nation seems to have a firm AI policy, why not see what AI would suggest for such a thing?” Dream what we desire, right?

My prompt was simple: “How can humanity use AI and all its capabilities for GOOD - following Christian values, bringing society closer to a ‘utopia’ and shrinking the gap between socioeconomic classes in a free market capitalist environment?”

The policy it proposed was decent - of course needs a significant amount of deeper research and discussion with many key people and visionaries, but what triggered me the most was the phrase “...utopia from a Christian perspective is often characterized by human flourishing, purposeful labor, and community.”

This led me to start asking, “Are we flourishing?”

What is flourishing? How do we know that we are in this state? And what gets us there?

The definition provided for “flourishing” is “developing rapidly and successfully; thriving.”

Purpose, by way of my AI response, is a clear first foundation. Something that I sense many of us 40-year-old women, whose kids are shifting from needy to independent, or moving out of the house, are figuring out. What is required of us is a move/shift into a new realm, and if you are like me and have experienced shift after shift, after shift in life already, this change seems a little “extra”. Hence, the “felt transition” mentioned prior. Maybe it’s a midlife crisis, I don’t know.

But seriously, are we flourishing? I mean, REALLY flourishing. We want and need for nothing, feel successful, and have a strong sense of safety, connection, growth, etc within our environment. Did we ever have that, or were those rose colored glasses of my earlier days that blinding?

I’ll let you answer this yourself - it’s basically a rhetorical question in nature as it’s always in flux. I wish they would bring back cursive as a mandatory element for school.

I digress, she now has me write random sentences, etc in printing (that’s a challenge for me to NOT handwrite these) and she then turns them into her cursive practice. This is a little subliminal message to her in a sense - she’s the seamstress, the creator and there’s a safety living on the fringe. Outside the “whole” because this means there’s potential for all the beauty in the world, rather than what’s set and frozen inside the mass. She has full permission to tailor her life as she desires and sees fit.

The Science of Soulful Skin

with Dr. Fernanda da Silva Tatley #54

Lisa Szabon-Smith

What if skincare wasn’t just about looking good, but about reconnecting with who you are? My own stuff, my family, my business, everything, friends, life.

I know you feel me.

I know you get me.

I know that you are feeling the exact same thing.

But what prompted me to get on here is, A, it's March 20th. 2025, and of course the rumours of an election going to be called here on Sunday or Monday, March 24th, the day that the House of Commons is supposed to reconvene, fun fact, fun knowledge, has me prompted to come on here.

I actually just received a yet another text message from team Pierre and no, it wasn't Pierre himself.

And, uh, Dude, we're busy.

We are so busy that sometimes responding to your texts feels like just another and.

And that is precisely what's going on.

So yes, we're all feeling busy.

We're feeling overwhelmed.

We're feeling like there is just too much going on and the heaviness of the world is weighing us down.

And so we want to shut off everything, tune it all out, flick on our favorite TV show and just... Veg, chill, all those things so we can escape for a moment, but we can't.

My friends, we cannot escape.

This is when we need to be vigilant the most and acting the most and most importantly, having conversations with people.

You might trip and stumble as you're trying to say the things and get them all out. But it needs to be done. We need to talk about how the fact that Mark Carney actually was not a helpful finance minister or connection,

I actually don't know his real term, with the UK when he was there during their time with Brexit. We need to discuss how it doesn't matter how many different liberal faces you vote into a system that

Unless the system has been completely dismantled, it's not going to be different.

It is not going to change.

I mean, entire companies, corporations often need to go and hire a competitor.

Someone who was trying to steal their ideas to bring them in to make a cultural shift within their industry to be able to actually step forward into a new direction.

Change requires disruptors, not parrots or people who are going to repeat the same patterns.

This just becomes abuse, you guys. When the pattern is repeated, it's abuse.

It's insanity.

Why are we not talking about the insanity that is happening right now?

Why are we so quiet in these realms?

And I'm sorry, but...If you didn't clue in that the reason why the capital gains tax was not added into the income tax this year, that's because it wasn't approved in the House.

It was not voted on.

The vote did not pass because our House of Commons was prorogued before it could pass.

CRA was trying to pull a doozy over everybody. and make it go through.

But there was a thankfully enough voices out there saying this is not legal.

So if our CRA is willing to do something underhanded such as that under the leadership of the current political party,

Why do you not believe that something else is going to be happening?

Why are we now like, oh, cool, our most hated JT is out of the house.

So now we can sit back and relax and everything will be better.

No, guys, it's the same monster.

I've had this talk before in a previous podcast and it's the same monster, different heads.

Doesn't mean the intentions are any different.

I don't know what's happening.

I don't know what they're trying to do for the future. I do know that steadily, while I am working my ass off, my husband is working his ass off, we are on paper are doing really well, but we're more broke and financially strapped than we have ever been.

I mean, hell, I am more broke now than I was when I was on maternity leave with our beautiful daughter for a year with barely, barely an EI income coming in.

I had liquid cash.

I had disposable income at that time.

And now, despite all efforts, the disposable income is gone.

And I'm saying this because I know it's a pain point that we are all experiencing.

Our middle class is gone.

It has dissolved into nothing.

We might be upper-lower class.

We might be middle-lower class.

Who knows?

But that middle is not there anymore.

It hasn't been for a long time, but we've been able to comfortably coast for just a little bit.

But the wool is being pulled off of our eyes now.

We're seeing clearly.

And it's time for a change.

So while Pierre and your team, you can text message me questions, try and encourage me to give you feedback about your policies and all of these other things, I know that a politician is actually not going to be the one making the change.

It is the people.

I know that it is the people they fear the most.

If we can just get our acts together, realize that while we might see different things and have different opinions on some sensitive topics, our basic necessities and needs and drives to survive in this world, in this country, whose dollar is near less value than the Mexican peso...

We need to get together and we need to unite as citizens, as brothers and sisters, if you will, and start expressing the need to be heard on the real issues, their survivability issues.

The issues around cost of living, economics, business productivity, creativity.

How come we've lacked it?

Because we've become so scared of talking.

So scared of saying, hey, I have this idea. I have a concept that I really think might help us in this situation.

Why are we so scared of being creative?

Why are we so scared of stepping outside of life?

That circle, that box that is holding us in and frankly holding us down.

Why are we not saying, I have worth?

I have a value.

And while I am not seeing it in some tangible form, I can bring it to the forefront. I can bring it to the front lines of the citizens trying to make sure that this country retains some semblance of dignity as we step into the future. As we prepare it for the generations that follow us.

Why is there zero planning ahead for the next generation and the three after that?

There is no logical reason for the governance and the excessive spending that we are witnessing right now.

What is the hidden message or intention behind what's going on?

I mean, you could go down a thousand dark rabbit holes and find various answers.

(00:08:42):

But what is your intention for the next year, five years, 10 years?

Is it to continue to see that disposable income is no longer in any existence whatsoever?

Do you intend to become completely broke and bankrupt?

That everything you work for is no longer in your hands.

It's gone.

Someone has taken it away from you.

Is your intention to be so riddled with anger and hatred and fear for the people who live right beside you because they have a difference of opinion or because they are willing to stand up and disrupt the status quo a little bit?

Is your intention...to lower further and further into destitution, depression, and everything else that seems to be coming at us heavy and into the weight of the world that's holding us exactly where we are, like a thumb keeping that piece of paper still from blowing in the wind.

No, I don't want us to blow in the wind and disappear and scatter everywhere.

But I do want us to be able to actually see what our intentions are.

I want us to be able to speak clearly. openly, walk forward with an understanding and a respect for the world around us and for the people around us, being able to put the intention of love, prosperity, the ability to thrive into my actions and what I do now, because I know what I do now will set me up for the future down the line. I mean, if you look at math, tomorrow's my birthday. Okay.

And if you look at math, I've got maybe potentially a good 35 years left on this earth.

Do the math for yourself.

How are you going to be spending today, tomorrow, the next year, so that those remaining few years ahead of you, 15, 20, 30, maybe you're lucky enough, it's 40 or 50.

How are you going to set yourself up to be able to live, really live in those years that follow.

A little extra effort right now, a little extra discomfort in this moment, open conversations, asking really curious questions and diving into the hearts of the policies and the intentions behind the leadership.

Not just what they're saying, but what is their intention behind it?

What is their method?

What is their means?

How are they going to step forward and make all these promises that they're making happen?

What is their track record?

Have they made promises happen in the past? Has their party?

Start thinking about these things.

Identify your pillars because your intentions will align with your pillars. They will align with your core values.

And if they don't, then it's time to take a really good hard look and shift things a little bit.

Dive in, dig deep.

Join me.

Join the masses of Canadians who have been and will continue to speak up with a little less fear every single time.

And connect with the people who have the ability to make the changes because you'll be surprised. They're far more accessible than you would believe.

Good luck.

Stay alert.

Stay educated.

Stay super curious, my friends.

With courage.

Sharing: For the Albertans Ready to Discuss their future

Shawn Newman Podcast #804 - Hnidey - Parker - Who would take us? Why would we leave?

The past many years have pinpointed a significant realization for myself, and perhaps for many others, our loyalties aren't 100% tied to a "country", identity, nor idea - they are tied to a land. Regardless of the current happenings in any country, so many of us are tied to the land. The leaving is the final straw, the part that causes immense greif and perhaps for some, remorse.

"What if we stayed? Could we have done more? Could we have saved our homeland?"

That word, homeland.
Home LAND.

It isn't home country. It's homeland.

We are tied to the land.

So, when nefarious actors show up, try to dessimate a country, break apart ties to nationalism and operate in some form of government overlord structure, they fail to identify the thing that will unify and hold the citizenry closest. Perhaps this is why we take solace in returning to nature. Because its always been about the land.

It's likely also why we are so moved when we watch land be destroyed, other people's home land burning up in flames, washed away in floods and decimated by twisters. Our primitive hearts understand what truly needs protecting, not the homes, the land.

I started this piece as a way to spill out my thoughts on tariffs and the abismal operations of our Canadian government - the Governor General not taking the reins of leadership and calling back Parliament to deal with the tariff war specifically - and yet here I am, rambling on about the importance of our connections to the land.

How the land is what we fight for when it all boils down, and I'm trusting that you are nodding your head in agreement as you read this.

I'm an Albertan, gifted to live in one of the most magical parts of Canada with full awareness that all parts of this land mass are magical. There's a power in the land that exceeds that of so many other parts of the world. And the rest of the world knows this.

We have our Rocky Mountains, prairies, Boreal Forest, badlands, gigantic big open skies and a majesty that runs across the whole space from border to border and all around. Alberta is home. Not the government, not the taxation situation, not the political dogma. Alberta, the land, the chunk of space rich with indigenous history, pioneer pride and people as tough as the rockies and yet as easy going as the wheat feilds blowing in the wind. We ride the waves of the seasons, settle into our roots and proudly call this place home. Our home. Our land.

I'm certian nearly every person across this country can identify with the love of the land for the place they have put their roots down and yet recently we have experienced an uprooting. A chasmic shift leaving so many to think "societal structure" rather than "home land". Remember our grandparents, the ones who escaped Europe during the World Wars? Remember the books and history teaching us about the first rounds of immigration to North America by the French and the English predominantly? They referred to home as their "home land" and sometimes the "old country". They understood. It's about the land.

It's high time we returned to this understanding as well.
When we are connected, deeply connected to our home land, we are unstoppable. We cannot fail because we move forward in devotion to her. We stand firm because our roots run so deep and we can draw energy, resiliency and strength from the wisdom that runs into the soils of our land. We stand firm, connect with our fellow stewards and unite together to support each other.

If we can return to the love of our land, the respect for what she provides and the deep understanding that strong communities are more powerful than a facade of a country, then we can weather any storm. We all have skills, things we can offer and ways we can connect to support each other, to build our own economies and to drive survival and innovation into new and exciting directions.

The power hasn't yet turned off, we still have ways to connect, so let's work together now, build the strength of the community we can rely on and recognize that WE are the leaders in our lives, not someone sitting on a fictitious throne hiding from their duties.

Build your communities, get real in the discussions and return to the land. Return to the heart of the place that holds you up, nurtures you and will one day envelope you in comforting deep rest. Much like a strong community can do right now.

Start small, think local, and have faith.
This too shall pass.

With Courage,
Lisa

Thanks for reading Fear|Less Changemakers! I am jumping on here recording my voice. We're going to use AI for transcription and take full advantage of all the tools in our hands. Biggest thing right now that's on probably every Canadian's mind is prorogation and the complete lack of respect for the country from our Prime Minister in the name of he knows. I mean, the whole Liberal Party knows that Canada is in a crisis situation.

00;00;34;14 - 00;01;01;21

We are all so good at looking through rose colored glasses, myself included, and we want so badly to believe that there are ways out of here. And if we only change the leadership, then, hey, we're doing good. We're better. But I don't know if that's true. Actually, I know it's not true. I know that what we're looking at is the exact same monster with multiple different heads.

00;01;01;24 - 00;01;26;29

Truly doesn't matter who it is. That becomes the next leader of the Liberal Party who becomes the next person, hopefully sitting in that House of Commons as an MP. The biggest thing is what do we do? And I really am not certain on that. I'm trying to figure things out. The only thing I can find is, you know, contact your local MPs, call your governor in general.

00;01;26;29 - 00;01;52;15

(Well, she's in the back pocket of the prime Minister) your local MPs. I mean, we've got some great ones, we've got vocal ones, we've got a strong conservative fight, but we need our NDP leaders. Those and the MP, the we need our NDP MP leaders. Wow. That's a tongue twister. And we need every other political party as well.

00;01;52;16 - 00;02;16;23

And so this goes into a conversation that I first was like, I'm totally going to speak on this. And then it's just come on to my heart that I need to just voice a concern and then move on. Take it as you will. And that is that. Yeah. We have a large number of card carrying Conservative Party of Canada membership.

00;02;16;29 - 00;02;47;21

People who have either threatened, discussed or already move forward in canceling their CPC membership to then go and become a member of the Liberal Party. So that they can become a voting a voter in the Liberal leadership race. It sounds so great because initially we start thinking of, all right, I can help, you know, affect positive change from the inside.

00;02;47;21 - 00;03;27;20

I can be that Trojan horse in there. And if there's enough of us in there and we vote for someone who is like the lesser of all the evils, then we're going to see change. But what stopped me from really diving into this is the integrity piece. If I am to be preaching and holding on to my core values of integrity, and to be encouraging people to walk forward with integrity, to be able to bring them to that higher level of leadership within their own lives, and hopefully into every other aspect around them and outside into their communities.

00;03;27;23 - 00;03;53;23

Am I holding integrity by switching over to a different party, just so I can be a Trojan horse from the inside? Hopefully swaying a vote no. Democratically. Okay. There's issues, there's problems. Why is it that you can only be a member of one party? Well, I think integrity comes to it. Take it as you will. Make the decision that sits best with you.

00;03;53;26 - 00;04;17;11

Maybe find out. Is there something that then I'm now a member of that Liberal party. And if I were to switch over and then I want to go back to the the Conservative Party is there do I get penalized? Is there a process there? Ask those questions. Where's my money going? The money goes towards campaigning and funding all of the various staffers that are within each group.

00;04;17;11 - 00;04;44;18

I had. Somebody asked me that they just wanted to know where the donations and the money goes. The Liberal Party, interestingly enough, you can find all of this. But the really interesting thing is the Liberal Party has multiple bank accounts for fundraising, whereas our CPC party has one, just one direct fundraising account. And then the funds by way of obviously all of your proper CRA guidelines and everything, get disseminated to the appropriate places.

00;04;44;18 - 00;05;08;18

Staff is one of them. Market or marketing campaigns, I guess, is one of them, election campaigns. Definitely a big part. The elections are not cheap. So here we are. Oh, Canada, I love you so much, but you have no idea how much I actually love you, in part because I grew up during a very golden era, or at least as a kid.

00;05;08;18 - 00;05;37;05

It sure as hell felt like a golden era of Canada. It was a time where if we were traveling internationally, we found other people who were not Canadian wearing the Canada flag on their backpacks for safety. Because Canadians are treated differently when they travel. It was a time when you proudly told people where you were from, proudly told them you were from Canada and you never got there.

00;05;37;05 - 00;06;05;05

Oh, your Prime Minister is an ass, right? And trust me, when we go and travel and connect with various people from different countries by way of where we end up traveling, that's usually the very first comment. Oh, your Prime Minister is horrible. Oh, I'm sorry, are you guys okay? We have even literally been offered a place of safe haven across the border.

00;06;05;11 - 00;06;34;27

Should we ever need it. Like, that's that's the international viewpoint of this country. And it's not the citizens, it's our leadership. But then it falls back on our citizens. It falls back on the people who are passive, sitting back thinking time will reveal and things will change naturally as the pendulum swings in. Okay, fine. It will. That happens.

00;06;34;27 - 00;07;05;00

We've seen it, but what about the fact that we as citizens have a little bit of extra power, but we didn't exercise it at the right times. We seem to wait until that very moment where all of a sudden we're being begged, begged to do something, and then we do it. But it's too little, too late. What about the moment when businesses were told certain people weren't allowed inside?

00;07;05;00 - 00;07;12;10

What if the business owners said, no, I don't agree with that because that is discrimination and I am not partaking.

00;07;12;10 - 00;07;22;09

In the end, these things require brave, fearless changemakers to take a moment to say where are my core values?

00;07;22;09 - 00;07;54;13

Where does my integrity lie, and why am I not acting within those? Why am I not moving forward within the things that are the structure of who I am and what I envision the future of my world to be? And when I say world, I'm not meaning one world I'm not meaning the entire globe. I'm meaning the world to which you live in the one that you work, breathe, love your family, and raise up your babies in that world.

00;07;54;15 - 00;08;21;23

What are you dreaming it be to become? Why are we not sitting down and questioning these things and working so damn hard to make sure that we are holding them, helping them evolve and grow within safe confines, within capacities to which we can actually handle all of the changes that are coming our way. Why are we not saying, whoa, that's too fast?

00;08;21;25 - 00;08;47;13

We need to slow down a little bit here. You guys, can we sit down, sit around a table and have a conversation and connect with each other to be able to open our hearts and discuss what is going on, and even just asking what the hell is going on. And this is far beyond politics. It's just the politics are in our face.

00;08;47;13 - 00;09;22;03

Or at least they're in mind. Maybe you've successfully ignored what's going on and kudos to you if you have. But there's so much more. So much that I wish we would just get a little bit more curious and ask those questions and dig really deep into our hearts to find out, to understand, to seek someone who might have a little bit of an answer, to join groups who are connected and wanting to work towards the same goal or a similar one.

00;09;22;03 - 00;10;03;09

At the very least, why are we spending so much time becoming more and more segregated, holding ourselves back, isolating ourselves only and living within thought, group thoughts, silos, and never opening that door to the possibility of a new perspective. Why is that not there? Because I'm quite certain that if we actually allowed new perspectives in and we discussed them, rather than taking them as just the rule or complete crazy, if we actually sat down and discussed and said, why do you think that?

00;10;03;09 - 00;10;26;25

Can you teach me war? What about this? Have we ever thought about approaching it from this angle? How about we did this instead? And we work together as a group, a variety of different upbringings, backgrounds, perspectives, jobs, everything. Where would we be? I don't think we'd be where we are right now. Canada. I don't think we would be prorogued.

00;10;26;25 - 00;11;04;17

I don't think our House of Commons and their question period would be such a complete joke of soundbites and Instagram worthy posts, I think we would be actually sitting there answering the question that is asked of us from across the floor, and then we tell or not retaliating, but returning with another question to help build upon the topic and get to the root of what needs to be either addressed or improved, to be identified as the cause, or to be celebrated as the solution.

00;11;04;20 - 00;11;34;27

Why aren't we there? Why have we fallen so far backwards? If we are an advanced civilization, why are we acting like we are complete primeval idiots for lack of a better word, so afraid that someone might change our mind. So worried that someone might actually help us see a different perspective. The side that we have a blind spot to and encouraging us to say hey, that's a really good idea.

00;11;34;27 - 00;12;08;29

I wonder if we blend the two or take the good things out of my concept and the good things out of that one. What would it look like? How amazing would that be? So citizens, fellow Canadians, first, please never stop loving this country. At her heart, at the foundation of what she is, and that the upbringing of the people who remember the golden years of this country being able to travel with of Canada, flag proudly on all of their gear.

00;12;09;01 - 00;12;57;21

Start from the heart. Please step out of your silos. Start asking really good questions and start speaking with your MPs, holding them accountable. Hold your MLAs accountable. They all connect and interact in one way or another. Make sure that your leaders are the best leaders for you. And you know what? In the end, I don't really care what side you're on, what party you're holding a card for, as long as you are thinking about how to help this country become financially stable, to be able to move forward with our resources, with pride, rather than this indoctrinated hatred for oil and gas that's paying for so many things across this country.

00;12;57;24 - 00;13;28;04

But if we can move forward, also knowing that, yeah, I might actually have a little bit of a different liberal perspective than you do, and I'm a little bit more conservative over here in this section. And I really like social aspects, provided they're funded via the right avenues, not the backs of the people. If we can understand that in the end, we pick things from one aspect to another and we become this beautiful melting pot of everything.

00;13;28;04 - 00;13;57;04

And we if we could move ourselves away from that indoctrination of it is this way and no other way. What a beautiful, beautiful place we can live in and create and mold and hopefully proudly, with a strong sense of nationalism. Protect unified again as Canadians maybe unified for the first time. Depending on your perspective, what does that look like for you?

00;13;57;09 - 00;14;19;04

Tell me in the comments. Let's get a conversation here. Let's dream together. Let's get every single perspective from outside, from everything angle, walk of life and let's talk.
